Synthesis, Characterization and Antimicrobial Evaluation of Some Novel Cyclic and Acyclic Terpenoid substituted Benzimidazole- Semicarbazones Derivatives

The purpose of the present study was to synthesize some novel terpenoids substituted N-(1Hbenzimidazol-2-yl) hydrazine-carboxamide derivatives for possible antimicrobial activity. The synthesized compounds were tested against a panel of Gram-negative (Gm-ve), Gram-positive (Gm+ve) bacterial and fungal strains. The results of MIC tests against both type of bacteria revealed that compounds 5a and 5b showed equipotent activity against H. pylori (ATCC 26695) and P. aeruginosa (ATCC 27893) respectively, to reference drug ciprofloxacin. Compound 5a and 5c showed promising antifungal activity against P. chrysogenum (ATCC 11709). Keyword: Terpenoids; benzimidazole; semicarbazones; antimicrobial
